Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Real Ramp
This is a carry-in spot, plain and simple. There are zero actual launch lanes — you're sliding a kayak or canoe down the bank. Don't show up here with a trailered boat expecting to get on the Grand River.
Spring Flooding
The Grand comes up hard here in spring and will swamp the surrounding area. It's been that way for decades. Can still paddle in high water, but the access point itself may be partially underwater.
Downed Trees
Heading upriver, expect to dodge downed trees and log jams. They shift around season to season but there's almost always something partially blocking the channel within the first mile. Manageable in a kayak if you're paying attention.
Bring Bug Spray
The mosquitoes at this spot are genuinely brutal, especially from late May through July. It's a low, shaded river corridor with standing water nearby — perfect breeding ground. Evening fishing trips here without repellent are miserable.
Parking Is Tight
Two trailer spots is generous wording — it's really just a small pull-off area. Fine for a couple cars with kayaks on top, but if someone else is already there, you're out of luck. No overflow options nearby.
