Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Sand-Buried Ramp
The concrete ramp is perpetually buried under nearly a foot of sand. You'll be backing your trailer way further in than feels comfortable — plan on getting your tow vehicle's rear tires wet just to float a boat. Kayaks and canoes are no problem, but trailered boats are a hassle.
No Dock At All
There's nothing to tie off to when you're loading or unloading. No dock, no courtesy pier — just the ramp disappearing into the water. You're wading in to get aboard, so leave the good shoes in the truck. Having a second person to hold the boat while you park is almost mandatory.
Flooding History
This spot has dealt with recurring high water, especially bad around 2018-2019. When levels come up, the entire ramp area and part of the parking loop flood out completely. Spring visits are a gamble — check satellite imagery before making the drive or you might find the launch underwater.
Tight Parking Situation
Nine trailer spots shared with a group campground and a vault toilet. On a summer weekend with the camp occupied, you may find zero spots. The lot layout doesn't allow you to loop around easily when it's full, so if you pull in and it's packed, you're doing an awkward backup exit with your trailer.
Great For Small Craft
If you're putting in a kayak or canoe, this is actually a solid little spot — easy carry to the water, usually quiet on weekdays, and the Kalamazoo River access makes for nice short paddles. It's the trailered boat folks who get punished here. For anything over 16 feet, look elsewhere.
