Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Ramp Has History
The concrete was rebuilt after years of damage, but the area right behind the ramp develops soft gravel divots and bowl-shaped washouts. If you're launching anything bigger than a 14-footer, check the base of the ramp before you back in — your trailer tires can sink into those soft spots fast.
Water Trucks Problem
Semis regularly dump water into the river right at the ramp, sometimes every 20-30 minutes. They've torn up the area around the launch and stirred up the bottom. It's bizarre and frustrating, but it's been going on for a while with no signs of stopping.
Kayak Launch, Not Boat Launch
This spot works best as a kayak or canoe put-in. Great quiet takeout for a 2-hour paddle from Chief Hazy Cloud Park or a longer 4-6 hour float from Fuller Street. Smallmouth smack everything on that stretch. For trailered boats, you're fighting shallow water and sketchy footing — look elsewhere.
Tight And Fills Fast
Eight trailer spots and a muddy gravel lot — that's it. On a weekend morning you might be competing with kayakers and bank fishermen for space. If you're pulling a trailer, get there early or have a backup plan.
Spring Flooding
The whole site floods in spring when the Grand comes up. Don't even bother until water levels settle, usually mid-to-late May depending on the year. The low-lying lot turns into a swamp well before the river actually overtops the ramp.
