Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Parking Nightmare
Eight trailer spots on paper, but the lot is shared with park-goers — walkers, dog owners, trail users. On warm days the lot fills by mid-morning and you'll be circling with a trailer. Head to the launch near North Park Bridge if you need guaranteed trailer parking.
Ramp Is Rough
The concrete is old and broken up in sections, with 1-foot plank transitions. It's usable for smaller boats and kayaks, but if you're backing a heavier rig down there, you're dealing with loose rock fill and uneven slabs that can be hard on tires. Not the place for a 20-footer.
No Dock, No Tie-Up
There's nothing to tie off to once you launch. You'll need a buddy to hold the boat or a plan to beach it briefly while you park. Solo launches with a powerboat are a hassle here.
Gate Closes at Night
The park gate locks after hours, so don't plan on a late evening retrieve or a pre-dawn launch unless you want your truck and trailer locked inside. Confirm closing time with the city before heading out — it shifts seasonally.
Best for Small Craft
This is really a kayak and canoe spot that happens to have a ramp. If you're running anything gas-powered or trailering a proper bass boat, you'll have a better experience at one of the other Grand River launches nearby. But for paddlers, it's a quick drop-in with a nice stretch of river.
