Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Weekends Fill Fast
Two lanes handle the traffic okay, but Big Star is a popular lake and weekend mornings in summer get backed up. If you're launching Saturday, aim for before 8 AM or you'll be waiting. Midweek is a completely different experience — almost empty.
South End Location
The launch sits on the southern end of the lake, so if you're headed to spots on the north side, you've got a bit of a run. Not a huge lake, but it's worth knowing if you have a particular shoreline in mind.
Single Dock Setup
There's only one dock, which is the real bottleneck when it's busy. Two lanes don't help much if everyone's jockeying for the same dock to tie off while they park. Have your crew ready to hold the boat so you can move your trailer out quickly.
Parking Is Generous
Fifty trailer spots is more than enough for a lake this size. Even on a busy holiday weekend you're unlikely to get shut out of a spot — the dock queue is your limiting factor, not the lot.
Clean But Basic
The ramp and lot are well-maintained, and there's a clean restroom on-site. No trash cans though, so pack out what you bring in. The concrete is in decent shape — nothing sketchy about the ramp surface itself.
