Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Wake Lake
Lake Minnewanna is a no-wake lake, so leave the big outboard at home. This is kayak, canoe, and small electric motor territory. Perfect for a quiet fishing trip but don't show up expecting to run a bass boat around.
Tight Parking Situation
Only 6 trailer spots at the launch, and they share the area with beach-goers, campers, and kayak renters. On summer weekends that lot fills fast — get there early morning or plan on circling. There's no real overflow option near the ramp itself.
Weeds Get Thick
Early spring is prime time for bass before the weeds take over. By mid-summer the vegetation gets heavy and can make launching and retrieving a chore. Monster pike are in here too, but you need to know the structure — they hide in that weed cover.
Rec Passport Required
You need a Michigan Rec Passport on your vehicle to enter Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area, which is the only way to reach the launch. No separate launch fee, but if you don't have the passport sticker you're not getting past the gate.
Goose Season Warning
Early summer the geese congregate near the water in big numbers and the water quality around the beach and launch area can get sketchy. The park brings in Goose Busters but usually not until June or later, and they don't always post water quality warnings. If the shoreline is carpeted in goose droppings, you'll know.
