Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Boat Wash Bottleneck
The Glen Lake Association runs a mandatory invasive species wash station at the ramp. On busy weekends this creates a serious backup — boats lined up onto the road. If you're a local who launches here regularly, the wait can feel maddening since there's no bypass lane. Budget an extra 20-30 minutes on peak days.
Parking Fills Fast
Twenty trailer spots disappear quickly, especially on summer weekends. Once the lot's full you're parking along the road shoulder. The lot itself tends to be muddy rather than fully paved, so expect soft ground after any rain.
Shallow & Wind-Exposed
The ramp faces into the prevailing wind, so chop stacks up right at the launch. Loading onto a trailer can be tricky when it's blowing. Water's also shallow here — late summer low-water conditions make it worse. If you're running anything with much draft, take it slow backing in.
One Real Lane
Technically two launch points, but one is basically a sand slide-in better suited for kayaks and small craft. For trailered boats you're funneling through a single proper ramp, which compounds the wait when the wash station is running. That said, people have launched sailboats up to 26 feet here without issue.
Worth The Hassle
Glen Lake's clarity is unreal — Caribbean-blue water with views of Sleeping Bear Dunes right from the boat. You can access both Big and Little Glen through the narrows by the bridge. Get here early on weekdays and you'll have a completely different experience than the weekend chaos.
