Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Watch Your Route In
Do NOT trust Google Maps if it routes you in from the southeast — that path turns into a tight two-track that dead-ends at a creek crossing you won't clear with a trailer. Come in from the southwest side. It's the reliable route year-round.
Tiny Ramp, Tiny Lake
Single lane, and the parking situation is basically undefined — maybe four trailers if everyone cooperates. This is a small-boat launch: canoes, kayaks, rowboats, maybe a 14-footer with a trolling motor. Don't show up with a 20-foot bass boat expecting a real facility.
Rarely Crowded
With only about 10 rustic campsites and no real draw for day-trippers, you'll almost never compete for ramp time. Weekends in July might see a handful of campers, but I've launched here dozens of times without waiting once.
Truly Remote
Nearest town with any services is Newberry, about an hour out. No cell signal to speak of, no showers, no electric — just vault toilets and a hand pump for water. Stock up on everything before you head in, because you're not running out for ice.
Worth the Drive
Bodi Lake is a gem for walleye and pike, and the fishing pressure is almost nonexistent compared to anything closer to a paved road. Loons on the water at dawn, dead quiet at night. If you want a wilderness launch experience in the eastern UP, this is hard to beat.
