Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Single Lane, No Rush
One lane and 15 trailer spots, but honestly you're not competing with many people up here. Even on summer weekends it rarely feels crowded. I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes to launch.
Seasonal Lockout
The park closes sunset to sunrise from October 1 through May 14. That kills any early spring walleye trips or late fall musky outings — plan around it or you'll find the gate shut.
Spring-Fed Clarity
North Manistique is spring-fed with surprisingly clear water and minimal weed growth compared to Big Manistique. You can actually see bottom well off the ramp, which makes it easy to gauge depth when backing in.
Pike Are Thick
Northern pike have really taken hold in both Manistique lakes. Great if you're targeting them, but if you're after panfish or walleye, expect toothy follows and cut-offs. Bring wire leaders.
Quiet Alternative to Big Manistique
If you've launched at the Big Manistique access points near Curtis, this is a completely different vibe — way less boat traffic, no jet ski circus. It's a smaller lake that fishes more intimate. Worth the trade-off if you don't need the acreage.
