Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Shallow Ramp
The ramp is shallow — plan accordingly, especially in late summer when levels drop. If you're running anything with a deeper draft, you'll want to idle out carefully. A jon boat or smaller bass boat is ideal here.
Tiny Parking Area
Five trailer spots is all you get. On a Saturday morning in July, you might be out of luck if you roll in after 8 AM. Weekdays are a different story — you'll practically have the place to yourself.
Single Lane Patience
One lane means you're waiting if someone ahead of you is fumbling with their trailer. It's a campground launch, so expect folks who don't launch every weekend. Early mornings or late afternoons keep the friction low.
Big Water, Calm Water
South Manistique is over 4,000 acres but stays remarkably calm — almost no wind chop compared to the bigger lakes in the UP. Great for smaller boats and kayaks. Walleye, pike, and perch keep people coming back.
Rustic But Clean
This is a DNR campground launch, so don't expect anything fancy — no dock, no fish cleaning station, just a ramp and a vault toilet. But the DNR crew keeps things tidy, and you can camp right on the lake and tie your boat up at certain sites overnight instead of trailering it out every time.
