Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Truly Hidden Gem
This lake stays quiet because most people can't find it. It's tucked back in the woods west of Van Riper State Park, and there's no real signage pointing you in. Know your route before you head out — GPS can get spotty on the drive in.
Rough Access Road
The road in is a narrow two-track through the woods. Take it slow, especially with a trailer. Low-clearance vehicles will scrape if conditions are wet and rutted. After spring thaw it can be a mud fest for a few weeks.
Small Ramp, Small Lake Feel
One lane with seven trailer spots — but honestly, you'll rarely compete for space. I've launched here on summer Saturdays and had the whole lake practically to myself. Perfect for a 14-footer or a kayak, not the place for a big bass boat.
Crystal Clear Water
The water clarity here is outstanding, some of the clearest you'll find in Marquette County. You can see the bottom well out from shore. Great for sight-fishing, but it also means fish spook easy — plan accordingly.
Shallow Near Ramp
The launch area is usable but gets shallow toward late summer. If water levels drop, you'll want to power-load carefully and watch your lower unit right at the ramp's edge. Earlier in the season it's fine.
