Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Boat Launch
Despite being listed as a launch, there's no ramp and no trailer parking here. This is really just a fishing access point with a pier off M-28. If you're looking to put a boat in the Chocolay, you need to look elsewhere.
Carry-In Only
You could wrestle a canoe or kayak down to the water, but that's about it. The river here is shallow and narrow enough that even small boats are a tight fit depending on the season.
Fishing Pier Is The Draw
The accessible fishing pier is the whole reason to stop here. It's a decent spot to cast a line into the Chocolay without getting your feet wet, and it's quiet enough on weekdays that you'll have it to yourself.
Manage Your Expectations
The Chocolay doesn't get stocked like southern Michigan rivers, so don't roll up expecting limits. Brook trout and the occasional steelhead run are the main game, but you'll work for them. Spring runs give you the best shot.
