Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Decent Ramp Depth
The ramp drops off nicely — it's deeper than you'd expect for a small state forest lake. You can get a moderate-sized boat in without scraping, even later in summer when some nearby lakes get sketchy shallow.
Six Spots, That's It
Only 6 trailer spots at the launch area, and the whole campground is just 16 sites. On a summer weekend you might find the parking claimed by campers with boats already in the water. Midweek or late season you'll have no issues at all.
Small Craft Sweet Spot
This is really a small-to-medium boat lake. You can get a decent fishing rig in, but don't show up with a 21-footer expecting a relaxing day. Single lane, tight turnaround, and the lake itself doesn't warrant big horsepower.
Noise Surprises
Train horns blast through around 7-8 AM, and there's road and airport noise that carries across the water. It's not a wilderness experience despite looking like one. If you're camping and launching early, you'll already be awake.
Mosquito Season Is Real
Peak summer — especially June and July — the bugs near the launch and shoreline are absolutely brutal. Bring serious repellent or plan your trips for late August through fall when it calms down and the campground thins out to nearly empty.
