Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Trailer Launch
There's no ramp and no trailer parking here — this is strictly a carry-in spot. Canoes, kayaks, and small inflatables are your move. Don't show up expecting to back a boat trailer down to the water.
Gorgeous But Primitive
Rustic doesn't begin to cover it. The setting along the Michigamme is stunning, but there are zero amenities to speak of. It's the kind of place you stumble onto and remember — just be ready to rough it a bit getting to the water's edge.
River Levels Swing Hard
Spring runoff and heavy rains can push the Michigamme up fast through here, and the rapids get legitimately pushy at high water. In summer it mellows out nicely for tubing and paddling, but check what you're getting into before putting a canoe in during May or June.
Walleye Water
The Michigamme is seriously underrated for fishing. Walleye are in here, and the stretch around the rapids concentrates fish. Republic puts on a fishing derby in July that draws a crowd — outside of that, you'll mostly have the river to yourself.
Managed By Bewabic
Bewabic State Park administers this site even though it's a good distance from the main park. Don't expect regular maintenance or signage pointing you in. Know where you're going before you head out — a GPS pin helps more than road signs around here.
