Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Wade-In Launch
The ramp doesn't extend deep enough, so expect to get into waist-deep water when launching. You walk the boat off the trailer and over to a tie-off post 10-20 feet from shore before parking. Same deal in reverse on takeout. Wear shoes you don't mind soaking.
No Dock Tie-Off
There's no courtesy dock to tie off at the ramp itself, which makes solo launches a real pain. You'll need a second person — one to handle the boat, one to park. If you're running solo, plan on getting wet and moving fast.
Gate Hours Matter
The launch is gated and only open 8 AM to 10 PM. They will lock you in (or out) if you push it. No sneaking out for a dawn bite — plan your day around those hours.
Holiday Crowds Manageable
Weekends and holidays get busy, but the ramp area is laid out well with enough lanes that traffic keeps moving. Staff sometimes direct traffic on peak days, which helps a lot. Ten trailer spots fill up on a sunny Saturday by mid-morning, but turnover is steady.
Shallow Spots On The Lake
Gun Lake has some deceptively shallow areas that'll chew up a prop if you're not paying attention. Stick to the marked channels until you learn the lake. It's a fun recreational lake but not deep water — keep your speed up only where you know the bottom.
