Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Remote & Primitive
The only public access on Hamlin's far eastern end — a primitive U.S. Forest Service launch in the Huron-Manistee National Forests, set where the Big Sable River feeds the lake through cattail marsh (officially the Forest Service's "Hamlin Lake Boat Access"). Federal land is limited to this far corner; the rest of the shoreline is state park or private.
Rough Road In
The access is an unimproved dirt two-track, so a high-clearance vehicle helps. Reviewers describe a rough ride — and routinely having the whole place to themselves.
Shallow & Mucky
The launch is shallow and can get mucky, which makes it best for canoes, kayaks, and small car-top or jon boats rather than a big rig on a trailer.
No Facilities
Nothing out here: no dock, no restroom, no drinking water. Pack in, pack out, and bring what you need.
Fishing & Seasons
The surrounding marsh and the Sable River inflow are productive water for pike, bass, and panfish, and much of the upper/east end of Hamlin is slow-no-wake. There's no winter maintenance out here — the road isn't plowed.
