Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Carry-In Only
There's no ramp and no trailer parking here — this is strictly a hand-launch spot. Kayaks and canoes slide in fine, but don't show up with a trailered boat expecting to get on the water.
Shallow & Scrappy
The Little Muskegon runs shallow through here with rocks and downed wood. Even in a kayak you'll be scraping bottom in spots, especially by mid-summer. Forget about tubing — too many snags.
Recent Stream Work
They did habitat restoration recently that really cleaned this stretch up. The banks are more defined and there's better flow. It's a noticeably different spot than it was a few years ago.
Creepy Ghost Town Vibes
This used to be the town of Altona — there's a chunk of concrete from a 1912 bridge/dam still sitting there. The old store is long gone. It's remote, quiet, and a little eerie if you're there alone at dusk. Embrace it.
Fly Fishing Sweet Spot
Small stream trout water that doesn't get hammered. Wade in and work the pools — brook trout and browns are in here. You'll rarely see another angler, which is the whole point.
