Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Road Is Brutal
The access road is the worst part of this launch, hands down. It gets rutted out fast even after they grade it — they fixed it recently and it was trashed again within a season. Take it slow, especially if you're pulling a heavy trailer.
Shallow Draft Only
This is aluminum boat territory. If you're running a bass boat or a deep-V fiberglass hull, don't bother — you'll be dragging bottom. Duck boats, walleye trollers, and kayaks do fine, but even kayakers have grounded out when water levels drop. If Lake Erie is running low, skip it entirely.
Holiday Chaos
Morning launches on busy weekends are no problem — plenty of open spots and no wait. But come back mid-afternoon on a day like the 4th of July and it turns into a circus. Plan your pullout before noon or be ready to sit for 45 minutes.
Rec Pass Required
You need a Michigan State Recreation Passport to park here, and DNR does check. They will ticket you — don't gamble on it.
New Docks, Short Reach
They put in new docks that look great, but they're short and the water at the ends is still shallow. Fine for getting a 20-footer launched and tied off, but don't expect deep water at the dock face. Mud bottom means stirring up a cloud every time you idle in.
