Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Two Ramps, Choose Wisely
There are two separate launches here — the east ramp is noticeably shallow and can leave you scraping bottom, especially with water levels down 2-3 feet from their highs a few years back. Use the west ramp if you're drawing anything more than a foot or two. This matters more every season as Erie stays low.
Paid Parking Year-Round
Parking is pay-to-park 365 days a year via Passport app or the pay booth — weekends cost more than weekdays. With only 13 trailer spots, that lot fills fast on summer weekends. If you get a spot and forget to pay, they will ticket you. No grace period, no exceptions.
Summer Weekend Crunch
This is a beach, pier, and launch all sharing the same small footprint. By mid-afternoon on any decent summer day, the beach crowd rolls in and the parking situation gets tight. If you're launching, get there early morning or stick to weekdays. The pier fishermen are out at night too, so evenings aren't exactly dead either.
Hours Are Enforced
Posted hours are 6 AM to dusk. Don't plan on a pre-dawn launch here — you'll be sitting in the lot waiting. Night fishing from the pier is a thing (they've got lights), but boat launch access after dark is a no-go.
Lake Erie Access, Not a Creek
Don't let the 'Whitewood Creek' listing confuse you — this launches you into Lake Erie proper via the harbor channel. It's a legit Erie access point between Bolles Harbor to the north and the Toledo ramps to the south. For a municipal launch with only two lanes it punches above its weight, but the shallow east ramp and limited trailer parking keep it from being a first choice on tournament days.
