Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Surprisingly Deep Water
Don't let the small lake fool you — Derby Lake drops off fast right near the ramp. You can launch without worrying about scraping bottom, even in late summer when other Montcalm County lakes get sketchy shallow.
Tight Parking Window
Only 9 trailer spots, so on a Saturday morning in July you're racing the clock. Get there before 8 AM or you might be waiting for someone to come off the water. There's no real overflow area to speak of.
Solid Concrete Ramp
Single lane, but the concrete is in great shape and the dock makes solo launching way easier. For a small rural lake managed by Newaygo State Park, this place is better maintained than a lot of launches twice its size.
Panfish Right Off The Ramp
Bluegill stack up near the launch area — you can literally catch them casting from shore while your buddy parks the truck. It's a quiet lake that doesn't get hammered, so the fishing pressure stays low.
