Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Short Ramp Warning
The ramp is noticeably short — if you're launching a pontoon or anything over 20 feet, you'll be white-knuckling it trying to get the trailer deep enough. Smaller aluminum boats and kayaks are no problem, but bigger rigs need a patient spotter and a willingness to get your tow vehicle's tires wet.
Boat Wash Station
There's a portable boat wash right at the launch run by the lake association. An older gentleman usually handles it and he's serious about keeping invasives out of this lake. Expect a quick washdown before you put in — don't be in a rush or you'll just frustrate yourself.
Crystal Clear Water
Avalon is one of those pristine Montmorency County gems — sandy bottom, almost no weeds, and visibility straight to the bottom in most spots. It's a completely different experience from the tannic inland lakes nearby. Worth the trip just for the water quality alone.
Tight On Parking
Only 10 trailer spots, and on a summer Saturday they'll fill by mid-morning. There's no real overflow area, so if you're not early you might be circling. Weekday mornings are your best bet if you want a stress-free launch.
Minimal Amenities
There's a restroom on-site but it's rough — flies everywhere in the warmer months. No trash cans either, so bring a bag and pack out what you bring in. This is a bare-bones state park launch, not a marina.
