Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Single Lane, Low Pressure
One lane is all you get, but Clear Lake is small and this launch doesn't see heavy traffic. Weekday mornings you'll have the ramp to yourself. Weekends can stack up a bit around 10 AM when the kayakers and pontoon crowd arrive simultaneously, but waits are short.
Kayaker Congestion Near Ramp
Kayakers tend to cluster near the swimming beach and launch area, so once you're off the trailer, idle out carefully. It's a tight shared space and they're not always paying attention to powerboat traffic.
State Park Pass Required
This is a state park day-use area, so you need a Recreation Passport on your plate to get in. If you don't have one, you can buy it at the gate, but it adds a few minutes. Don't roll up assuming it's a free public launch.
More Park Than Launch
This spot is really built around the beach, disc golf, and picnic areas — the boat launch is almost an afterthought. Thirty trailer spots sounds generous, but that lot serves the entire day-use area. On a hot summer Saturday, beach-goers will eat into your parking fast. Get there before noon or you might be circling.
Clear Water, Shallow Entry
The lake lives up to its name — visibility is excellent, which is a plus for spotting any debris near the ramp. It's a smaller lake best suited for pontoons, fishing boats, and kayaks. Don't bring anything that needs a deep channel to launch comfortably.
