Weir Blocks Channel
The channel from Duck Lake out to Lake Michigan is blocked by a weir, so don't plan on motoring through to the big lake. Kayakers and canoeists can get over or around it depending on water levels, but trailered boats are staying on Duck Lake — period.
Current After Rain
After heavy rain, the water flowing through the channel toward Lake Michigan can get surprisingly strong. If you paddle out toward the lake, you'll have a fun ride downstream but expect a solid workout fighting the current on the way back.
Single Lane, Small Window
One lane and 14 trailer spots means summer weekends fill up fast, especially Saturday mornings. Get there by 8 AM or you might be waiting for someone to pull out. Midweek is a completely different experience — practically empty.
Kayak Paradise
This spot really shines for paddle craft. Duck Lake is calm, scenic, and small enough to explore in a couple hours. The trails nearby and the Lake Michigan beach make it easy to turn a morning paddle into a full day trip.
Rec Passport Required
It's administered by Muskegon State Park, so you'll need a Michigan Recreation Passport on your vehicle. Easy to forget if you're just popping in for a quick launch, but they do check.
