Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Shallow Ramp
The concrete plank ramp they put in fall 2020 is serviceable but shallow — you'll scrape a lower unit if you're not careful, especially late summer when levels drop. Stick to smaller boats; anything over 16 feet is asking for trouble with the tight maneuverability.
No Dock, Plan Accordingly
There's no dock here, period. You're loading and unloading solo off the ramp itself, so bring a buddy or be comfortable hopping in and out in shallow water. Kayaks and small fishing boats are the sweet spot.
Quiet Lake Advantage
Bills Lake is shallow and warm, which keeps the big boat crowd away. If you want a peaceful paddle or a calm day on the water without getting bounced around by wakes, this is your spot. Don't expect much from the fishing though — pike used to be solid here but it's dropped off noticeably the last few years.
Tight Parking Window
Seven trailer spots is all you get, and with hikers using this as a North Country Trail access point, a couple of those can get taken by non-boaters. Weekday mornings you're fine, but a summer Saturday could leave you circling. Need a Rec Passport to get in.
