Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Shallow Channel Out
The channel from the ramp to the main lake is shallow and choked with underwater vegetation. If you're running a jet boat or PWC, you're asking for trouble — stick to a prop-driven boat and tilt up if needed until you hit open water.
Small Ramp, Tight Moves
Single lane and it's compact. Maneuvering anything much bigger than a 18-foot aluminum or a small pontoon gets dicey. If you're trailering a larger boat, look at one of the other Hardy Pond launches with more room to work.
Rarely Crowded
70 trailer spots for a single-lane ramp means parking is basically never an issue. Even holiday weekends stay mellow here — the ramp just doesn't draw heavy powerboat traffic because of that shallow channel. It's a quiet launch.
Late-Summer Algae
Hardy Pond can get nasty algae blooms by mid-to-late summer, especially in the warmer bays. Plan on scrubbing the hull after a day out in August. The bloom varies year to year but it's a recurring thing on this impoundment.
Rec Pass Required
You need a Michigan Recreation Passport to get through the state park gate — no additional launch fee beyond that. Handicap parking is right down by the ramp, which is a nice touch. Trail users share the area, so watch for hikers and mountain bikers near the lot.
