Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Parking Fills Fast
Only 12 trailer spots, and on summer weekends this place gets overrun with tubers and kayakers. If you're trailering a boat, get there early — by mid-morning it can be a zoo. The lot is partially paved with some gravel overflow, but once it's full, it's full.
Confusing Parking Signs
The visitor parking area has signs pointing you right, but nearly every spot over there is marked tow-away except handicap spaces. It's been like that for a while. Best bet is to just park in the main lot and pay the $5 at the booth so nobody messes with your rig.
Great Kayak Launch Setup
The dedicated kayak/canoe launch is a real highlight — fully accessible with a nice slide-in system separate from the boat ramp. If you're paddling to Maple Island, figure 3.5 to 5 hours depending on water levels and whether you're in a kayak or tube. Easy takeout at the other end too.
Fee Catches People Off Guard
$5 daily or $30 annual, collected at the booth during business hours. After 5 PM the booth is unstaffed and nobody's checking. The fee isn't posted well online, so people show up expecting it to be free — just have cash ready.
Ramp Works But It's Basic
Single lane handles river boats fine, but don't expect anything fancy. The ramp gets the job done for flat-bottoms and smaller rigs on the Muskegon. Not the place to launch anything over 18 feet — the river here doesn't demand it anyway, and the turnaround space is tight when the lot's crowded.
