Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Electric Only
No gas motors allowed — this is strictly electric trolling motor territory. Keeps the lake quiet and the fishing pressure low, which is honestly part of the appeal.
Passport Required
You need a Michigan Recreation Passport to get through the Holly State Rec Area gate. Don't forget or you'll be turning around. No day-use fee booth to bail you out.
Single Lane, No Rush
One lane and 20 trailer spots sounds tight, but the electric-only rule keeps the big bass boats away. You're mostly sharing with kayakers and small jon boats, so the ramp rarely backs up.
Summer Boat Wash
Oakland County runs a mobile boat wash station here during summer months. They're serious about invasive species in this area, so expect a quick inspection before you launch — just budget an extra few minutes.
More Than Fishing
The launch doubles as a trailhead for a solid 4-mile loop that connects over to Valley and Wildwood lakes. On weekends you'll see as many hikers using the parking lot as boaters, so don't be surprised if trailer spots are taken by cars with no trailers.
