Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Weekend Parking Crunch
Seventeen trailer spots go fast. If the weather's nice on a Saturday, you need to be there by 8 AM or you're out of luck — no real overflow option nearby.
Rough Access Road
The road in has legitimate potholes and gets muddy after any rain. It's not going to stop you, but take it slow if you're towing a heavier rig. Don't expect it to be graded regularly.
One Lane, One Dock
Single lane with one dock, so if someone ahead of you is fumbling with their trailer, you're just waiting. Kayakers and canoe paddlers can slip in off the small beach area to the side, which helps keep things moving.
Gate Can Be Locked
The launch sits inside Highland State Recreation Area, and the gate has been locked at times — possibly off-season or during certain closures. If you're making a special trip, it's worth knowing you might pull up to a closed gate with no warning signage.
Worth It for Panfish
The bluegill fishing here is genuinely good, and the lake stays quiet compared to bigger Oakland County lakes. It's a small, peaceful water — ideal for a 14-footer and a couple rods, not a tournament rig.
