Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Dirt Road In
The access road is unpaved and gets rutted, especially after rain. Take it slow if you're pulling a longer trailer — some of the washouts can sneak up on you.
Hidden Gem Feel
McLaren sits off the beaten path in Oceana County, so it doesn't draw the crowds you'd expect for the biggest lake near Hesperia. Weekdays you might have the whole ramp to yourself.
Single Lane Patience
One lane and 15 trailer spots is usually fine here, but on a nice Saturday morning in summer you could end up waiting behind a couple rigs. Get there by 7 AM on weekends if you want a stress-free launch.
Know Your Depths
The lake has a mix of shallow flats and genuine deep holes, so pay attention on your first pass with the fish finder. Bass and big crappie hang in the deeper structure — the shallows can catch you off guard if you're running at speed in an unfamiliar area.
Basic But Functional
You get a dock and a restroom, which is more than a lot of state-managed launches in the area offer. Don't expect anything fancy, but everything you need to get on the water is here.
