Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tiny Ramp, Tiny Lot
One lane, one trailer spot, and parallel parking along the road — that's it. If someone's already parked with a trailer, you're figuring out creative solutions. Best to keep your rig small or just hand-launch a kayak or canoe.
No Motors Allowed
This is a no-motor lake, so don't bother hauling anything with an outboard. Electric might fly depending on current regs, but it's really kayak and canoe territory. That's also what keeps it dead quiet and worth the trip.
Bass And Pike Heaven
For a 156-acre lake tucked inside Rifle River Recreation Area, the bass and pike fishing punches way above its weight. Kayak anglers especially clean up here since you can work the whole shoreline without fighting boat traffic.
Go Early Or Midweek
Summer weekends at the recreation area bring campers who wander over to every lake. If you want the ramp clear and the lake to yourself, weekday mornings are the move. By Saturday afternoon you might be competing for that single parking spot.
Backcountry Feel, Easy Access
It feels remote once you're on the water — no development on the shoreline, no jet skis, just trees and birds. But you're still inside a state recreation area with decent roads getting you there, which beats bushwhacking to some of the other small Ogemaw County lakes.
