Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Kayaks Over Powerboats
This is really a kayak and canoe spot, not a powerboat launch. The channel to Lake Superior is shallow and you may need to physically portage your boat through parts of it. Don't show up here expecting to drop a 20-footer in and motor out.
Two-Spot Parking
There are literally two trailer spots. If somebody else is there with a trailer, you're done. For kayaks and car-toppers it's more forgiving since you can just pull off to the side, but plan to arrive with zero competition or have a backup.
Sheltered River Mouth
The launch sits at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River where it meets Superior, so you get decent wind protection from most directions. That's a rare thing on Superior. Great staging area if you're paddling upriver or poking along the shoreline.
Worth It For The Scenery
Even if you don't launch, this is a beautiful little stop. Boardwalk with benches along the river mouth, vault toilet, and a view straight out to Superior. Birding is excellent here in the warmer months. It's more of a hidden gem than a serious launch facility.
