Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Ramp Handles Big Boats
The ramp is long enough to launch a 34-footer without drama, which is unusual for a single-lane harbor this remote. Back in straight though — there's no room for correction with the walls close on either side.
Parking Gets Tight Fast
Only 10 trailer spots, and you're sharing the lot with marina slip holders and their vehicles. On summer weekends, you might be circling. Get there early or you're improvising in the dirt overflow area.
Barebones Facilities
Pit outhouse only — no power, no water, no pump-out. Bring your own toilet paper because it's almost never stocked. This is about as rustic as a state harbor gets.
Superior Doesn't Mess Around
This is open Lake Superior with nothing between you and the Canadian shore. Seas can build fast and the harbor itself is tiny — just a few slips and some wall space. If weather turns, you're coming back in whether you want to or not. Check NOAA buoys before you even think about heading out past the point.
Worth It For the Setting
Fishing tugs, old barns, colorful rocks on the beach, freighters rounding Whitefish Point — this place has more character than any manicured launch downstate. The whole harbor feels like it's held together by history and stubbornness. Infrastructure is slowly crumbling, so enjoy it while it lasts.
