Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tight Window Parking
Nine trailer spots sounds fine until opening weekend of trout season — then it's a scramble. Midweek you'll have no trouble, but Saturday mornings by 7 AM you might be squeezing onto the grass shoulder.
Single Lane, No Rush
One lane keeps things simple on this stretch of the Au Sable. Most folks here are floating canoes or dropping in smaller boats, so the turnaround is quick. Just don't show up behind a group of kayakers unloading a trailer full of rentals.
Shallow Gravel Launch
The river runs pretty skinny through the flats here — you're looking at maybe 18 inches in late summer. Fine for canoes, kayaks, and drift boats, but don't plan on putting a deep-V in during low water. Spring runoff gives you more room to work with.
Solid for Float Trips
This is a great put-in or take-out for Au Sable float trips between here and Mio. The access is clean, the ramp is easy to find right off the road, and there's no confusing network of two-tracks to navigate. Way less hassle than some of the unmarked pull-offs upstream.
