Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tiny Lot, Plan Accordingly
Four trailer spots is all you get. On a summer weekend, even this little lake can fill up by mid-morning. If you're towing anything bigger than a 16-footer, maneuvering in the small turnaround area gets tight.
High Water Closures
The launch has been shut down before due to high water levels — completely closed, no launching or pulling out. If you're heading up in spring or after a wet stretch, call Otsego Lake State Park first to make sure it's actually open before you make the drive.
Weedy But Fishy
Lake Manuka is a weed factory, especially by midsummer. Frustrating to fish if you're throwing anything with treble hooks, but the bass and pike are healthy — 18-inch bass and pike pushing two feet are in there. Weedless rigs are basically mandatory.
Rec Passport Required
This is a state park-administered launch, so you'll need a valid Michigan Recreation Passport on your vehicle. Easy to forget since it feels like a quiet little backcountry access point, but they do check.
Fall Is Prime Time
The lake is at its best in early to mid-fall — weeds die back, boat traffic drops to almost nothing, and the colors around the shoreline are outstanding. You'll practically have the place to yourself on a weekday.
