Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
4WD Only Access
They're not kidding about the four-wheel drive recommendation. The road down to the ramp is steep and rutted — a two-wheel drive truck with an empty trailer is asking for trouble, especially after rain. Think twice before hauling anything bigger than a 14-foot aluminum down there.
Possibly Padlocked
The DNR has closed this site before due to high water and parking issues, padlocking the gate without much notice. Before you make the drive out, confirm it's actually open — there's no signage on the main road warning you, and cell service out there is spotty.
Tiny Operation
Two trailer spots and one lane — this is about as bare-bones as it gets. If even one other person is launching, you're waiting or improvising. It's really set up for car-toppers and small fishing boats, not anything with serious beam.
Small Lake, Big Wakes
Lake Twentyseven is compact enough that speed boats throw wakes wall to wall. If you're out in a 12-foot jon boat, the chop from even one ski boat can get uncomfortable fast. Early mornings midweek are your best bet for a peaceful fishing trip.
