Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Watch the East Side
Hug the east dock when backing in. The concrete ramp has a drop-off along the edge — if your trailer drifts even slightly west, the tires will find the hole. It's not obvious from the truck, so have a spotter.
Parking Fills Fast
Twenty trailer spots sounds okay until a summer Saturday morning. By 8 AM you're looking at the grass overflow islands, which the DNR allows but can get soft after rain. Show up early or plan on getting creative.
Bass Tournament Chaos
When there's a tournament running on Spring Lake, this launch turns into a pressure cooker. Guys will cut you off at the ramp and bark at you for taking an extra 30 seconds. If you see a dozen matching jerseys in the lot, brace yourself or come back later.
28 Feet Max, Realistically
You can squeeze a 28-footer through here but it's tight with only two lanes and limited maneuvering room. If you're running anything bigger, head to the North Shore launch instead. This place is best suited for smaller rigs.
Spring Ramp Timing
Some years the ramps aren't in the water until well into spring — I've seen 70-degree days in April with no ramp contact. If you're itching to get out early in the season, call Hoffmaster State Park first or you'll waste a trip.
