Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Real Ramp
There's no actual boat ramp here — it's more of a carry-in access point. You can muscle a canoe or small kayak down to the water, but forget about trailering anything in. If you need a proper launch, you're heading to Indian Lake instead.
Tiny & Remote
Four campsites, no reservations, first-come-first-serve. Holiday weekends can snag all four spots by Thursday afternoon, but midweek you'll likely have the whole lake to yourself. It's state forest land, so expect vault toilets and no running water.
Great Basecamp Location
Canoe Lake sits close enough to Munising and Pictured Rocks that you can day-trip easily, then come back to dead quiet at night. If you're paddling the small lake itself, it's a peaceful flatwater experience — no motors tearing around.
Cartop Boats Only
The shoreline access works fine for anything you can carry — 12-foot jon boats, kayaks, canoes. But there's zero trailer parking and no defined lane, so anything bigger than what fits on your roof rack is a non-starter.
