Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Not A Boat Launch
This is Kitch-iti-Kipi (Big Spring), a natural spring attraction — not a usable boat launch. The "raft" here is a cable-operated observation platform for viewing the 40-foot-deep crystal clear spring. You can't put a boat in here, period.
Beat The Crowds
The raft queue gets long after noon, especially midsummer. Get there when the park opens in the morning and you'll walk right on. By early afternoon you could be waiting 30-45 minutes just to cross.
Winter Access Quirks
The park stays open in winter, but the raft is frozen to the dock, restrooms are closed, and the paths can be pure ice. Snowmobile access is an option and a pretty solid ride in. Beautiful but limited.
Actual Launch Nearby
If you're trying to get on Indian Lake with a boat, you want Indian Lake State Park — it's a short drive from here. Palms Book is purely a sightseeing stop. Worth the $11 entry for the spring, but don't show up with a trailer expecting to launch.
