Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Tiny But Functional
One lane and only 8 trailer spots — this is a small-water setup for small boats. Don't try bringing anything over 18 feet; the turnaround area is tight and you'll be doing a multi-point shuffle.
Naming Confusion
The launch is technically on Dodge Lake but administered under Indian Lake State Park. If you're plugging it into GPS, search for Dodge Lake in Schoolcraft County — searching 'Island Lake' will send you on a wild goose chase across the state.
Fishing Over Swimming
The water's better suited for dropping a line than taking a dip. Weedy shoreline and soft bottom make wading unpleasant, but the fishing holds up well, especially for panfish.
Ramp Markings Gone
The ramp was stenciled at some point but it's completely worn off now. On overcast days or at dusk, it's hard to judge where the concrete ends and the lake bottom begins. Back in slow and pay attention to your tires.
Low Pressure Spot
With only 8 spots you'd think parking would be an issue, but this lake sees very little traffic even on summer weekends. It's a quiet UP lake that most people pass right by on their way to Indian Lake or Manistique Lake. That's the whole appeal.
