Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Small Boats Only
This is a single-lane primitive launch on a creek-sized stretch of the Manistique River. You're putting in canoes, kayaks, or maybe a 12-foot jon boat with a small motor. Don't even think about trailering anything here — there are zero trailer spots, and the turnaround area is tight.
Bug Season Is Real
June through mid-July the mosquitoes and flies here are absolutely brutal. I'm talking clouds of them. Bring a head net and douse yourself before you even open the car door. It calms down by August, but early season trips require serious commitment.
Remote And Rough
You're way out in state forest land on gravel roads. Cell service is basically nonexistent. The upside is you'll likely have the river to yourself on a weekday — the downside is if you forget something, the nearest town is a long drive back.
Holiday Weekend Crowds
Most of the time this place is dead quiet, but holiday weekends — especially Fourth of July and Labor Day — can bring in large groups that take over the campground with generators and noise. If you're just looking to launch and fish, go early morning before the camp wakes up.
Solid Paddle Access
Where this spot really shines is as a put-in or take-out for paddling the Manistique. The river here is gentle, scenic, and you'll see bald eagles and other wildlife along the banks. It's one of the better access points on this stretch if you're planning a multi-hour float.
