Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Road Is Rough
Once you turn off Anchor Bay Drive, the road to the ramp is brutal — deep potholes that'll rattle your trailer and swallow a sedan. Take it slow, especially with a loaded boat. It's been this way for a while and doesn't seem to be a priority fix.
Parking Fills Fast
Thirty trailer spots sounds reasonable until a sunny Saturday morning hits. By 7 AM on summer weekends the lot is full, and there's really no overflow option. People start getting creative with how they park, which makes it even tighter when you're trying to back down. Weekday mornings are a different world — practically empty.
Yellowjacket Season
From about mid-June through September, the yellowjackets around the parking lot and the outhouse are absolutely vicious. The big tree near the outhouse is ground zero. Spring and fall launches are way more pleasant — you skip the bugs and the weekend crowds in one move.
Ramp Hole Warning
There's a significant dip right at the top of the ramp where the pavement meets the launch surface. It'll catch your trailer hitch or bang up a lower unit if you're not expecting it. Just ease into it and you'll be fine, but first-timers always get surprised.
Strawberry Island Access
The big draw here is how quickly you're on Lake St. Clair and over to Strawberry Island — it's a short, easy run. The ramp faces away from the North Channel current, which makes loading and unloading way less stressful than fighting the flow. Best suited for smaller boats; it's a single dock and two lanes, so don't show up with a 24-footer expecting a smooth experience.
