Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Ramp Visibility Issue
The launch is easy to miss — there's no prominent signage, and the dirt ramp blends into the shoreline. If you're coming for the first time, slow down or you'll drive right past it.
Flooding & Water Levels
As of late 2024 the ramp is actually submerged, though the site is still technically open. Water levels here swing a lot — some years it's too high and the ramp disappears, other times it's shallow and weedy near shore. Either way, plan for an adventure getting your boat in.
Parking Crunch
Ten trailer spots sounds okay for a 217-acre lake, but it fills fast on summer weekends. People park trailers half in the water and half on shore, which eats into usable space. Get here early or you're out of luck — there's no overflow area.
No Dock, No Help
There's no courtesy dock, so loading and unloading solo is a real chore. Bring a buddy or be ready to get your feet wet holding the bow while you park the trailer. Smaller boats and kayaks are way less stressful here than anything over 18 feet.
Worth It For The Lake
Despite the rough launch, Bankson Lake itself is a gem — undeveloped shoreline, relatively low boat traffic, and solid fishing. It's the kind of place where you trade convenience for peace and quiet. Just don't expect a polished experience getting on the water.
