Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Low Bridge Warning
There's a low bridge between the launch and the Lake Michigan channel. Keep your rods down and anything tall stowed until you're clear — it'll catch you off guard the first time.
Kayak Launch Quirk
The dedicated kayak launch is handicap-accessible, which is rare and genuinely well done. That said, expect to wade through some water getting to it depending on lake levels. Shoes you don't mind getting wet are a must.
Parking Fee & Payment
Gate takes credit cards or exact change — currently $8-$10 depending on the day. The lot is big with well-marked spaces, so even on summer weekends you're unlikely to get shut out. One ADA spot available near the ramp.
Watch The Dock Hardware
The docks have exposed metal posts and fasteners that can gouge your hull if you're not careful tying up or sliding alongside. Fender up before you dock, especially if you care about your gelcoat. Multiple docks to choose from, so pick the cleanest-looking one.
Facilities Are Legit
Fish cleaning station here is top-notch — one of the better ones you'll find on this stretch. Clean restrooms, picnic tables for hanging out after, and kayak/canoe rentals on-site if you don't bring your own. For a Black River launch that gets you to Lake Michigan this fast, it's hard to beat.
