Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Mucky Ramp Bottom
The ramp surface gives way to soft muck at the bottom, and it gets shallow fast. I've watched guys in decent rigs get stuck trying to launch — bring a spotter and don't commit too far down until you test it.
Veterans Park Access
The public ramp is inside the veterans park off 90th Avenue, near the beach area. Don't confuse it with the other ramp on the lake — that one's private and gated. If you pull up to a locked gate, you're at the wrong one.
Tiny Lot Fills Quick
Six trailer spots is all you get. On a summer weekend, that lot is spoken for by mid-morning. There's no real overflow option nearby, so plan on an early arrival or a weekday trip.
Small Boats Only
Between the shallow, mucky conditions and the single narrow lane, this is really a launch for jon boats, canoes, and small aluminum rigs. Anything over 18 feet and you're asking for trouble getting on and off the water.
Not Much Has Changed
The state bought this access back in 1957 and honestly it feels like the ramp hasn't seen serious maintenance since. If you've got other lake options in Van Buren County, they're probably worth the extra drive.
