Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Winter's Reliable Ramp
FWC co-badges this one and names it plainly: the Deer Point Lake Draw Down Boat Ramp. When the county drops the pool two and a half feet each winter and the shoreline ramps go marginal, this double lane at the dam keeps launching — it's the lake's designated reliable access from mid-November to early March.
The Pier Side
The lake's fishing pier stands here on the west side of the dam — a long walk out over the deep water where the catfish and winter crappie hold. On any given morning the pier railing outdraws the boat lanes, and shore anglers work both sides of the causeway.
Right Side, Right Water
McCall-Everitt Park straddles the dam, and only the NORTH side is the lake. The two ramps on the south side launch into brackish North Bay at the foot of the spillway — fine water, wrong water, and there's no boating between the two. Check which side of Highway 2321 your pin points to before you back in.
Gravel and Little Else
A floating dock, a big gravel lot, lights — and no restrooms of any kind. Ira Hutchinson's flush toilets are two minutes across the dam; make that stop first.
Estuary at Your Back
Standing at this ramp you can watch dolphins working the salt side of the causeway while gators sun on the fresh side — the whole strange bargain of this lake in one view. The bridge walkways fish both waters; the boats never do.
