Vehicle-Only9 spots
Crowding Peak-season (winter–spring) mornings fill the lot early — forum reports call ramp congestion routine when the big-fish window is open. 36 paved trailer spots plus unpaved overflow west of the lot (FWC's fishing page counts 'around 44 trailers' including it) absorb most days. On 2026 closure weeks the traffic simply moves to Stick Marsh.
Plan B — if this lot is full On closure days (Aug 3–6 and Sept 8–10, 2026) or a blown-out lot, every alternative is DIFFERENT water: the Fellsmere Grade Recreation Area on Stick Marsh, 2 miles west on the same road, and SJRWMD's C-54 canal ramp off Tim Goodwin Road are the District's designated fallbacks. Middleton's Fish Camp on Blue Cypress Lake is the area's full-service option, also different water. Egan Lake has no ramp of its own — when this ramp is closed, Egan is effectively unreachable by trailer boat.

The 2026 Closure Calendar
Before you hitch up: SJRWMD closes this ramp and its kayak launch Monday–Thursday of each month's first full week through September 2026 — Aug 3–6 and Sept 8–10 remain. The levee trails stay open for bank fishing; Stick Marsh, two miles west, is the designated fallback. Nothing is posted for 2027 — check the District's announcements page first.
A Facility Worth the Drive
Two concrete lanes FWC rates 'Excellent,' a floating dock, 36 paved trailer spots with overflow to the west, and a composting restroom — free, opened August 2020 with an $842,000 FWC Boating Improvement match. By this cluster's bare-bones standards, it's the nice ramp.
Kayak Doors
Paddlers get a launch at this ramp (closed on ramp closure days), plus a primitive dirt levee launch at the northwest corner, reached from the Stick Marsh lot with a 200-foot hand-carry and no vehicle access to the water. Kayakers had this lake to themselves for years before the trailer era; 100-bass days from that era are part of the lore.
The Road
About four miles of unpaved Fellsmere Grade off Babcock Street, and the forums are unanimous: brutal washboard that loosens electronics and coats everything in dust, smoothest pre-dawn, roughest in afternoon heat. Run it slow, strap down or remove your graphs, and budget the time. Paving talk has circulated for years — still dirt as of July 2026.
