Beauclair is the first lake below Lake Apopka on the Harris Chain. The Apopka-Beauclair Canal enters from the south; its lock sits well upstream of the lake, so Lake Jem Park on the canal reaches Beauclair with no lock — only the run onward to Lake Apopka locks through the 15 x 60-ft chamber, the smallest of the chain's three. Downstream, Beauclair drains lock-free into Lake Dora and on through the chain to Eustis, Harris and Griffin. Lake Carlton hangs off the east side, reachable by boat.
Summer is the season here: FWC's chain forecast puts Beauclair on the short list for topwater frogs and prop baits, and native submersed plants cover roughly 90% of the lake with strong year classes of bass, per FWC. Guides treat it as the darker-water, bigger-bass, slower-action counterpart to Lake Dora. The January 2026 pro previews found the whole chain running dirty — even Beauclair, usually the clear one — with hardly any hydrilla. Max depth is only about 10 feet, so wind roughs it up fast, and summer lock traffic to Apopka can stack up an hour or more on tournament days.

Lake Beauclair is the first lake below Lake Apopka on the Harris Chain, and it wears the results of the Apopka cleanup: roughly 1,126 acres, about 10 feet deep, once pea-soup water — the state's cleanup plan blamed the Apopka-Beauclair Canal for 93% of its phosphorus. The fixes were industrial-scale: the NuRF alum plant on the canal, a dredge that pulled over a million cubic yards of muck off the lake's delta by 2013, and about half a million pounds of gizzard shad netted out to carry nutrients away. Clarity roughly doubled, native plants rebounded to about 90% coverage, and the bass followed.
This is now the chain's big-bass sleeper — the lake best is 11 lb 3 oz, and FWC's summer forecast puts Beauclair on the short list for topwater frogs and prop baits. Expect darker water, bigger average fish and slower action than Lake Dora next door.
