Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Built for the Swing
Polk's newest public ramp — opened January 2025 at 2808 Doc Lindsey Road — was engineered around this lake's famous level swings: a walled entry channel designed to deliver boats to the water no matter the season. The state inventory's old '(Not Usable During Low Water)' warning describes the retired predecessor, not this facility.
Deliberate Remoteness
Fifteen minutes from Fort Meade, twenty-one from Frostproof, and the county's own pick for escaping crowds — eight trailer spots, free, after-hours launching allowed, no facilities beyond the essentials. Bring everything; that's the deal and the charm.
Verify the Season Anyway
The margins still move with the level, and drought-year edges differ from flood-year ones. First trip of a season, idle the channel and re-learn the mouth.
