Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
No Real Ramp
There's no actual boat ramp here — zero lanes, no trailer parking. This is a carry-in situation only. Canoes, kayaks, and small inflatables are your options. If you're towing anything, you need a different plan.
Mosquito Apocalypse
June and July here are genuinely brutal for mosquitoes — not normal U.P. bad, but legendary bad. I'm talking clouds of them the second you open your car door. Bug nets, heavy DEET, and a head net aren't optional, they're survival gear. Holiday weekends in early July sometimes aren't as bad, but don't count on it.
Portage Paddling Hub
The real draw here is dry-portaging between Pretty Lake and several surrounding lakes. Paddle across, drag your canoe a short stretch, and you're on totally different water. It's a phenomenal kayak-and-canoe network if you're willing to work for it.
ATV Dust And Noise
ATVs roll through the campground regularly, kicking up serious dust clouds on the unpaved roads. Holiday weekends bring generators running all night and campers sprawling across multiple sites. Midweek visits are a completely different — and much quieter — experience.
Truly Off-Grid
No cell service out here, not even Verizon. No services nearby either. The restroom is rustic campground-style, and the nearest town with supplies is a real drive. Come fully stocked or you'll be making a long round trip.
