Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Gadsden Gem
Pat Thomas Park — old-timers still say Hopkins Landing — is the west shore's full-service option: two paved lanes, docks, a fishing pier, playground, pavilions, and a campground with water and electric hookups, fire pits, and showers. Pet friendly, $2 to launch for the day, and FWC has sunk fish attractors off the pier here specifically to help bank anglers.
Day Use Means Day Use
Unlike the 24-hour Leon County landings across the lake, the park runs daytime hours (gates close at 9 PM) — registered campers excepted. Plan pre-dawn launches accordingly, or camp and beat everyone to the water anyway.
Camp It
The RV and tent campground is the reason many anglers base here: hookups, fire pits, a pavilion, showers, and the whole west end of the lake at your doorstep. Reservations through Gadsden County at 850-875-4544.
Whippoorwill Water
This is the shore the Gadsden faithful swear fishes better — the Ochlockonee arm and the fish-camp coves (Whippoorwill and Ingram's are minutes south) hold crappie in winter and pickerel year-round, per the locals who grew up fishing it. Grass parking, so heavy rain can make it soft.
Fish Attractor Pier
The pier here is one of four Talquin sites where FWC installed brush-pile fish attractors for shore anglers — worth remembering on days the boat stays home. Don't anchor on the attractors if you're afloat.
